Brad
Liza Goldstein
blank Liza was bred at the Canine Assistance Camp in Alpharetta, Georgia. Dogs here start training at 2 weeks old and are continue training until they are assigned a caregiver. Brad attended a 2 week seminar where he and Liza learned to work with each other.
blank Dogs at the camp are taught a variety of ways to help the disabled including:
opening and shutting doors and drawers, turning on and off lights, picking up small items, pushing buttons on elevators, and detecting seizures. The larger breeds can also pull wheelchairs.
blank Liza's main function to Brad though is to help him up if he falls down and there is no one to assist him. She does this by sitting next to him and allowing Brad to use her back to hoist himself up. Labradors have very strong backs. In addition if Brad hurts himself Liza will bark to alert help.
